Our Favourite Places would be nothing without our contributors — a massive thanks to all of them!
Tell us about you…
I'm from Derby and moved to Sheffield to study film in 2003, then I fell in love with the city and never left. I now work in communications at Sheffield Hallam University during the day and study MA Creative Writing there part time. I also moonlight at the wonderful Sheffield Theatres, programme and organise film events as The Five and Dime Picture Show and volunteer at the University of Sheffield's Film Unit as programme editor.
What does Sheffield mean to you?
A great deal – it's just home. I'll always wander to see other places but I know that I'll always come back.
What’s your favourite Sheffield place?
I really couldn't choose just one. I think the Lyceum is one of the most beautiful buildings in the world, you can often find me in The Red Deer, and I've had a tumultuous love affair with the Showroom since the moment I first set foot in it.
What would you do to improve the city?
Sheffield Film Festival. Yes, we have the very wonderful Doc/Fest already but given the scope to do anything, I'd utilise the fantastic resources we have in the city to host our own international film festival, and bring filmmakers to the city and give a platform to local artists and community cinemas in the process.
