The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust

Sheffield Industrial Museums Trust is responsible for running three of the city's best preserved – and best loved – heritage sites. Firstly, there's Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet, a unique 18th-century scythe-making works. Then there's Kelham Island Museum, in the heart of one of the city's oldest manufacturing sites, where you'll learn all about how the words 'Made in Sheffield' became so internationally renowned. And finally, Shepherd Wheel, a water-powered grinding workshop on the banks of the Porter Brook, with a history dating back to the 1500s.

During lockdown, explore Abbeydale Hamlet using SIMT's app, and join in some of the museums' downloadable activities. The team at SIMT are moving towards bringing more online content to you soon – so check back for details.
