The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Melanin Fest

Each October is Black History Month in the UK – a celebration of our diverse society and an opportunity to tell stories that are still often left out of our history lessons. Coinciding with Black History Month, Sheffield is hosting the second Melanin Fest, turning people's attention to the present, celebrating black talent and shining a spotlight on the experiences of people of colour in Britain today.

The grassroots festival is organised by Our Mel, a collective formed by Annalisa Toccara and Gabriela Thompson, and brings together workshops, exhibitions, talks, and more.
