After opening this summer, Artcade Gallery continues its programme dedicated to platforming Sheffield's contemporary artists with an exhibition by Jim McElvaney.
Based in the Forum shopping arcade, Artcade offers Sheffield artists space to create, show and sell their work in a programme of solo exhibitions. This October, artist Jim McElvaney presents A Moment’s Peace, a collection of work predominantly based on photographs taken either whilst waiting for, or travelling on, public transport. Fascinated with the way we don’t look at people, Jim's work hints at the lives behind the faces of those we miss when we're too busy looking at our phones. The collection also sees him explore the unforgiving medium of mono-printing for the first time.
With these works, McElvaney aims to capture both the anonymity and familiarity of people we usually only ever glimpse at. It's a continuation of his ever-persistent desire to make us look closer, past the strangeness of strangers.
Open every Saturday 10am–4:30pm.
