The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Angelina Abel is an experienced African Fusion Dance Teacher. As the founder of Mulembas d’Africa dance classes, Angelina blends Angolan dance styles with West African, Latin and Oriental dance.

Bringing you an energetic dance workshop, Angelina is a believer in the power of dance as ritual and as an unshakeable & ancient medium for personal change, solidarity & social bonding. Angelina Abel was born in Angola and grew up in Portugal in a family of dancers and performers arriving in Sheffield in 2004. She established Mulembas d’Africa, a dance series and Mamawe festival of intercultural dance to explore, celebrate and teach heritage dance from the African diaspora. Angelina focuses on the primal power of movement as ritual and performance, and as a medium for personal growth and social integration. She is an artist-associate at Arts on the Run, Yorkshire and Humberside’s regional arts and refugees’ hub.

Workshops and masterclasses in Utopia Theatre’s Creative Hub are for people of African origin aged 16 and above.
