On the side of Bloc Projects' gallery on Eyre Lane, the Bloc Billboard creates a unique outdoor space for a programme of temporary outdoor artworks. The second artist to present work as part of the 2020 billboard programme is Ben Yau, whose work will be installed until 25 October.
Ben Yau is a Chinese-Scots visual artist based in London. His art explores global conflict, historical narratives, and social tensions. Interested in history as a means to understand present crises, he currently works with materials he finds from a research-intensive process, and then through collage or montage uses them to create works on paper and moving image. His multi-media projects engage a diverse range of materials, such as declassified CIA documents, British Ministry of Defence research papers, newspaper clippings, and videos found on the internet. By way of appropriation, Yau addresses the processes or moments of political rupture.
