As part of the nationwide celebrations commemorating the birth of the circus 250 years ago, the exhibition gallery in Western Bank Library is hosting Circus Performers: Extraordinary Feats from Ordinary People.
Showcasing rare and important treasures from the National Fairground and Circus Archive collections, the exhibition examines the stories behind the pioneering showmen and circus performers who have thrilled audiences around the world. From the equestrian skills of Philip Astley to human cannonballs, visitors can discover the reality behind the amazing talents of acrobats, aerialists, animal tamers and clowns and learn what made and continues to make them so special.
