Cornerstones is an exhibition of new painting by brothers Connor Newsome and Josh Newsome and their former teacher Richard Kitson.
Still life, portrait and landscape are arguably the three base areas of investigation for artists, with most art courses encouraging artists to explore them in some way. Richard Kitson and brothers Connor and Josh Newsome have continued to explore these three artistic practices beyond their studies.
Kitson and the Newsomes' connection goes back to 2013 when the former taught the brothers on their A level fine art course at Barnsley Sixth Form College. Now recent graduates, Connor and Josh have quickly gained a reputation for their still life and landscape based work respectively. Alongside teaching, Kitson has exhibited his portraits in the UK and internationally. His double portrait of Connor and Josh was exhibited in this year's Royal Society of Portrait Painters exhibition and marks the relationship between the three artists who continue to find much to be discovered in these three cornerstones of visual investigation.
Booking is not essential but Bloc Projects encourage visitors to book a specific time to visit the exhibition. Please note that priority will be given to pre booked visitors, and some visitors may be asked to visit at a later time if they arrive during a pre booked session.
