Since 2013 the Sheffield-based social enterprise E.D.E.N Film Productions have been running filmmaking workshops and events for the LGBTQ+ community, as well as organising the Transforming Cinema film festival. In 2020, the group are offering a free filmmaking course, E.D.E.N Shorts 2020 – giving LGBTQ+ people a chance to learn the skills to create a short film raising awareness of issues important to their community.
The course will cover skills in camera work, sound, lighting, interviewing, editing, and storytelling. There'll be five two-hour workshops with award-winning filmmaker Brett Chapman – running on Tuesday evenings at Union St, 7-9pm, from 11th February – followed by 20 hours of filming and editing with Brett and E.D.E.N's founder Claire Watkinson.
It follows on from the success of 2016's E.D.E.N Shorts project, which resulted in the creation of four short films that went on to be screened at film festivals around the world including BFI Flare, SQIFF and Translations: Seattle Transgender Film Festival.
