Grammy winner Jean Toussaint is a fluent, inventive saxophonist with a mellow tone and a bluesy soulfulness. He returns to Sheffield Jazz with another excellent band, showcasing a collection of new compositions in tribute to his siblings and people and places important in his life.
His band features acclaimed pianist Jonathan Gee and trumpeter Freddie Gavita, who impressed as part of the Kind of Blue sextet at the Crucible earlier this year. Expect exciting music from a saxophonist of international stature – from Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers in the mid-80s to high profile collaborations in many jazz styles.
“…Toussaint displays a beautiful, incisive tone that you can only compare to liquid crystal…” – Time Out
