With a new album Shadow Boxing, which she describes as ethereal-math, Jemma Freese brings her startlingly original music to Jazz at The Lescar. Mixing contemporary jazz metal riffs, heavy synths, choral-inspired vocals, sub-bass and classical piano, and with influences including Tigran Hamasyan, Matthew Bourne and Snowpoet.
Jemma’s music carves a brilliant and vibrant new pathway for contemporary jazz; dynamic, coherent, and energising music, realised by a great band.

You may have caught Jemma as part of J Frisco, who did a wonderful gig at The Lescar with Archipelago, before going on to feature at the London Jazz Festival, or perhaps in her truly memorable gig at Yellow Arch before Christmas. Now based in Sheffield, we’re thrilled to welcome Jemma back to The Lescar, coinciding with the release of her album, one of the most innovative and exciting releases this year, and a further glimpse of a musician set to make a real mark on the UK music scene.
