Before his term ended, Lord Mayor Magid Magid crowned Otis Mensah Sheffield’s first poet laureate. Born and bred in the steel city, Mensah is a hip-hop artist who has performed at Glastonbury and supported the likes of Wu-Tang Clan and The Sugarhill Gang. He describes himself as a "young story-teller-rapper-poet". The dream is to use his poet laureate title to break down barriers to poetry, and his performance with poets Raluca de Soleil, Birdspeed and Dami theganette Okhiria aims to do just that.
