Mary, a twelve year-old who is very bored on her summer holidays, follows a strange cat into the woods and stumbles first across a magical flower, closely followed by a broomstick. Climbing aboard she is transported to Endor College, a magical academy run by Madam Mumblechook and Doctor Dee. She quickly finds herself in trouble, as all is a little more sinister than it first appears.
From Studio Ponoc, a new Japanese animation studio formed by animators previously at Studio Ghibli, Mary and Witch’s Flower is already a modern animated classic, bringing back memories of My Neighbour Totoro and Kiki’s Delivery Service. An antidote to busy Hollywood animations, watching Mary and the Witch’s Flower is at once a comfort and a delight.
