While visiting her sister in Colombia, Scottish woman Jessica (Tilda Swinton) is awoken in the early hours of the morning by a haunting, loud 'bang' at daybreak. She can't find the source or an explanation for the noise, but embarks on a slightly obsessive mission to recreate it as she begins experiencing a mysterious sensory syndrome – one that unravels a much greater mystery.
Restless and disoriented, she roams the city in search of an explanation for the mysterious sound, becoming immersed in the aural richness around her.
Drawing on the familiar themes of sleep, memory and past experience, Memoria is a masterly, mesmerising and beautifully immersive film from Palme d’Or winning director Apichatpong Weerasethakul.
