He's been called "the patron saint of poetry" by none other than Carol Ann Duffy and Liverpool has long claimed him as their own poet laureate. He even has a poem on the wall in our very own Winter Garden – which our Poetry Tour of Sheffield will take you to. Now Roger McGough is coming to the magnificent Abbeydale Pictyre House to read from his exuberant new collection, joinedupwriting, which covers everything from forgotten friendships and the idiosyncrasies of family life, to the trauma of war and contemporary global politics. These poems explore the human experience in all its shades of light and dark, but always with McGough’s signature wit, irreverence and vivacity.
This event is one of our Festival of Debate 2019 picks. It also forms part of the Sheaf Poetry Festival programme.
