Join botanical artist and jewellery designer, Josephine Gomersall for a botanical drawing workshop at the Millennium Gallery. As a Fellow member of the Society of Botanical Artists and a member of the Florilegium Society at Sheffield Botanical Gardens, Josephine will share with you her experience, in a relaxing and tranquil setting, filled with colourful, delicate seasonal flower arrangements.
You will have the creative time and space, art equipment, new skills and the confidence you need to create your own beautiful artwork, using graphite pencils, watercolour paints and paper.
Throughout the day you will be guided to produce pencil sketches and watercolour trials, experiment with mark-making and colour-mixing, and develop your drawing skills and illustrative style – all to inform your final outcome of a pencil and watercolour drawing depicting a single botanical specimen. Emphasis will be given to deep concentration and close observation of your chosen subject matter to enable the best results.
This workshop is suitable for beginners and intermediates who share an appreciation of flowers and the beauty of the natural world and an interest in capturing the essence of ephemeral blooms through the art of botanical drawing.
All art materials and equipment will be provided, including the seasonal flowers.
Josephine’s passion for botanical drawing began in her childhood. Since then, she has continued to develop her artistic skills throughout her professional career, with botanical inspiration and drawing at the heart, forming an essential part of her creative practice and a way to experience relaxation and Flow, (described as the state of absorption in one’s craft).
