Sheffield's resident chamber musicians, Ensemble 360, present:
MOZART Quintet for Piano and Winds in E flat K.452
SIBELIUS En Saga Op.9 for septet
SCHUBERT Piano Quintet in A D.667 The Trout
The finale concert of Sheffield Chamber Music Festival features three joyous pieces. Mozart’s Quintet is for the unusual combination of oboe, clarinet, bassoon and horn with piano, and each of them is highlighted as they throw the themes to each other. En Saga brought fame to Sibelius in his native Finland and is imbued with hints of legend and myth. The fourth movement of Schubert’s Trout Quintet is based on one of his earlier songs, Die Forelle, but while the tale told in the original song has an unhappy ending for the poor trout, in this Quintet the mood is decidedly upbeat!
