Join the folks from Jazz at The Lescar at Yellow Arch Studios for an evening of subtle, rhythmic and quietly expressive improvised chamber music from a band of UK jazz and improvised music legends. Zoetic are led by Loose Tubes trumpeter Chris Batchelor, with Margrit Hasler (viola), John Parricelli (guitar), Steve Watts (double bass), Paul Clarvis (percussion).
Renowned for his melodic and warmly lyrical trumpet playing, Chris Batchelor’s new ensemble is a further distillation of the approach he established in his writing in ground-breaking groups Loose Tubes and Big Air, playing original music reflecting a long lasting immersion in London’s varied music scene, from East African guitar band grooves to wistful European folk themes and sinuous lines reminiscent of Arabic music.
Guitarist John Parricelli and bassist Steve Watts were fellow members of Loose Tubes, and the addition of violist Margrit Hasler and percussionist Paul Clarvis results in a unique and intriguing collective sound, rich in textural possibilities.
“A fine trumpeter who intriguingly blends Miles Davis’ shrewd pacing and evocative long-note sounds with something of Harry Beckett’s bubbly phrasing.” – John Fordham, The Guardian
