Tamper's small but perfectly-formed space at Westfield Terrace is full of charm and the heady smells of freshly roasted gourmet coffee beans.
The owner, Jonathan, is a trained barista from New Zealand who, lucky for us, brought his knowledge and passion for the bean to our hilly city. Using a boutique roaster from Yorkshire and offering a different coffee every week, Tamper came as a breath of fresh (well, coffee-tinged) air when it first opened in late 2011. Seriously, Sheffield city centre had never seen such expertly poured flat whites and long blacks until this coffee house came along.
With great food – award-winning pies, toasted bagels, top flapjacks – and super friendly service, the original Tamper is the perfect place to refuel on a shopping visit to Sheffield's Devonshire Quarter. Look out for intimate socials and coffee tasting evenings. And when you're hungry for more New Zealand-inspired food to go with your coffee, be sure to pay a visit to Tamper mark II at Sellers Wheel.
