After guzzling our way across the city, we can say with conviction that the best place for any gin lover to find themselves in Sheffield is The Devonshire (formerly known as The Old House).
The Devonshire is serious when it comes to gin. Referring to itself as a "ginporium", it stocks over 100 gins at any one time, covering varying hues and flavours, including Sheffield Dry Gin made by the bar's owners, True North Brew Co. If anyone's perfected the G&T it's these guys: their menu pairs up different gins with the perfect flavoured tonics. Gin and vermouth are well represented on the cocktail menu. And if you're keen to learn more, book a place at one of the Devonshire's monthly Gin Schools.
Unsurprisingly, gin even makes its way onto the food menu. There's a sloe gin cheesecake, and even the option to enjoy a gin high tea. Other, gin-free dishes range from a fresh, very green breakfast of avocado and peas on sourdough to cauliflower bhajis to pies and a hearty Sunday roast.
We'll see you at the bar.
