In 2007 Sheffield became the UK’s first City of Sanctuary – a place that welcomes asylum-seekers and refugees, that offers a hand to people in need of safety. Since 2016, theatre and arts festival Migration Matters has become the UK's largest Refugee Week festival.
For 2021, Migration Matters is taking place in two parts. Join it online on 14–20 June (Refugee Week) and again with a mix of in-person and virtual events on 9–17 July.
See below for highlights for the online Migration Matters programme in July. Featuring music, poetry, conversation, art, theatre, film and more – creating a global celebration of sanctuary live in Sheffield, with some events also streaming online. See the full July programme and Covid-19 policies on the Migration Matters website.
Some events are free – but donations are always welcome.
