Sheffield DocFest picks

Each June, the world of documentary filmmaking gathers for Sheffield DocFest. The festival is a showcase some of the most fascinating factual films going. For 2021, it's offering two ways to share in the thrill of factual storytelling: both in person at the Showroom Cinema, and online.

Hanging On

Screening as part of a collection of short films in Doc/Fest's Northern Focus strand, Hanging On is set in a former coal-mining community in Leeds. It spotlights the strength of a neighbourhood that unites when faced with eviction.

Site Gallery

DocFest takes over Site Gallery, S1 Artspace, Sheffield Hallam University Performance Lab and its online platform, with a series of exhibitions, artist talks and events.


Multiple dates


Director Victor Kossakowsky chronicles the unfiltered lives of a mother pig, a flock of chickens, and a herd of cows with masterful intimacy. The film invites us to slow down, experience life as these animals do and take in their world with patience.
