The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

S1 Artspace

S1 Artspace was set up by a group of artists in 1995 and has been responsible for one of Sheffield's best contemporary art programmes ever since. When it's not bringing to town the work of visual artists from around the world, the gallery regularly showcases the fruits of its own studios, which are home to around twenty of the city's most exciting young artists. The spring 2020 S1 Studio Holders' Takeover was disrupted by the pandemic, but parts of the programme have gone online – in the form of online exhibitions, film screenings, and radio broadcasts.

"At S1 Artspace, we’re committed to supporting our studio holders so they can continue to develop their practice, access any financial support they may be eligible for, and remain connected with the studio community. This is alongside a new online digital programme profiling new work from our studio holders."
