The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Algorithmic Pattern

Fri. 12 September 2025 — Sat. 20 September 2025

New to Sheffield's culture calendar for 2025, Algorithmic Pattern is a festival and conference, bringing together researchers and practitioners curious about the practice and culture of algorithmic pattern-making.

People have always made algorithms to make patterns. So Algorithmic Pattern brings heritage arts and crafts – like procedural approaches in textiles, juggling, choreography, bell-ringing – together with those born in the contemporary information age – think live coding, generative art, e-textiles.

The Algorithmic Pattern team hope that it'll become a regular event, taking place every two years.

More details coming soon! In the meantime, join their mailing list.

The event will take place in two parts:

  • In-person in Sheffield, and streamed online: 12–14th September 2025
  • On-line, with in-person ‘watch party’ in Sheffield and potentially other sites: 19–20th September 2025 (provisional dates, may change)
