The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Illustrator Josh Garcia from the ArtWorks collective presents his first solo online exhibition, Retroverse.

Retroverse features 63 pieces of digital and traditional art that Josh created since the start of the pandemic. Josh explores both fictional scenes and current events in his work, with references to the pandemic and the NHS alongside characters drawn from his imagination. Many artworks also refer lovingly to his home county of Yorkshire, while some of the characters he depicts draw on his own experiences, such as Elijah the Autism Fairy. Throughout the exhibition is a nod to nostalgia, as Josh takes inspiration from the retro imagery of 1930s cartoons and 80s and 90s animation.

Discover Josh's stories and characters as you navigate the online exhibition, laid out in a digital recreation of a gallery space.
