The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Join author and creative producer Ruth Nutter for a free online talk and Q&A on tips and techniques for bringing local communities together.

Ruth was the producer of Ruskin in Sheffield, a programme of events and activities that took place between 2014 and 2019 inspired by the ideas of 19th-century writer, artist and philanthropist John Ruskin and supported by Ruskin’s charity the Guild of St George.

In her new book, Paradise is Here: Building Community Around Things That Matter, Ruth draws on experiences from the Ruskin in Sheffield programme and introduces her principles around the socially engaged practice of connecting local communities with each other. The handbook offers guidance on awakening creativity, collaborating in and across communities, and deepening connections with nature and locale.

In Ruth's words: “we live in a culture where paradise is a place we escape to – what if we focused on making it where we live?"
