Join flautist Kristýna Farag and harpist Ruth Lee for their winter concert at Cafe #9 in Nether Edge.
Featuring music and yuletide stories from around the globe: from classic Christmas favourites to contemporary winter-themed pieces. Come dressed in your cosiest winter jumpers and experience the enchanting sounds of the harp and flute.
Ruth Lee is an award-winning harpist and composer, described as a ‘musical storyteller’ with ‘her own inner voice’ (Sioned Williams, UKHA Review). Her work has been recognised at many leading festivals across the UK and internationally; highlights include Semifinalist in the World Harp Competition 2024, Solo Recitalist in the World Harp Congress 2022; Sioned Williams Prize for Harp at the United Kingdom Harp Competition; Iain Macleòid Young Composer Award at The Edinburgh International Harp Festival, and First Prize for Composition at the Wales International Harp Festival. Ruth also works as a soloist with Live Music Now, sharing interactive performances and leading workshops with those with reduced access to live music, in care homes, schools, hospitals, hospices and community settings.
Kristýna Farag is a Czech flautist and singer. Born to a Slovak mother and Syrian father, she integrates her Slavic and Middle Eastern roots into her work. As a versatile independent musician, Kristýna specialises in 20th-century music, contemporary Czech compositions, improvisation, and Arabic music. As part of the Albaidar Duo, she has released videos paying tribute to Arab divas and performed this year at Kettle’s Yard gallery in Cambridge. The duo is set to perform at Amsterdam’s Mezrab, "The House of Stories," in January 2025. Kristýna has performed at international festivals with renowned ensembles such as the Baborak Ensemble and the Prague Symphony Orchestra. She also co-won 1st prize in the flute trio category at the 2011 International Friedrich Kuhlau Flute Competition in Uelzen, Germany.
