Being a doctor (or a patient) in Tudor times could be quite gruesome. There were all sorts of nasty diseases, infections and horrible injuries you could suffer from. Mary Queen of Scots even had her own surgeon and as time went on she needed all the tips and tricks to prop herself up. Now is your chance to become a Tudor doctor for a day through a variety of activities and Manor Lodge's Tudor doctors trail. Have you got the skills it takes to help cure your patients and to survive?
What you’ll be making:
On the day you will be able to collect your doctors medical record to keep track of all your doctoring (you will need one to participate).
Paid activities include:
- Tudor illnesses
- Design and craft a Tudor cure
- Tudor doctors trail
- Craft a plague doctor mask
- Craft a pomander
Please book activity slots in advance as spaces are limited.
The activities and trail are aimed at families and children aged 6–11. £4.50 per child for activities.
While you're at Manor Lodge you can also experience a walk in the historic grounds, discover the story of Mary Queen of Scots, play in th outdoor sandpit and treat yourself to an Our Cow Molly ice cream.
For history buffs, there are history guided tours at 10:30am, 12pm and 1:30pm with expert historian David Templeman. Tours are £4.50 per person – book in advance.
