Belonging to the new wave of Liverpool acts that emerged during the late 70s and early 80s alongside Echo and the Bunneymen, The Teardrop Explodes, OMD and Frankie Goes to Hollywood, China Crisis started life as a politically charged post punk band who took influence from the ambient sounds of Brian Eno.
Like many of their peers, they soon crossed over to a more commercial sound and gained chart success in the UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand as their single Wishful Thinking released in 1984 performed well across the world. Able to weave a wide variety of influences into their music, including jazz and progressive rock, they established their own sound that has remained singular to the band to this day.
