Described as “beautifully subtle yet hypnotic” by The Guardian, Emergence Collective are an acoustic improvisatory ensemble based in Sheffield. Drawing on influences from European folk, jazz, early music and contemporary classical, all their music is completely improvised using a unique combination of instruments.
Their show at Highfield Trinity Church will celebrate the release of their debut album Swimming in the Early Hours, released on Sheffield’s Redundant Span Records. The album leans into moments that are quiet, slow and delicate, as well as intricate, expansive and propulsive, with nods to minimalism, jazz and folk.
The performance will feature: Rob Bentall (nyckelharpa), Zebedee Budworth (hammered dulcimer), Juliana Day (recorders, whistles), Jemma Freese (vocals), Tim Knowles (acoustic guitar), Alina Ehret (cello), Ruth Nicolson (violin), Will Shaw (percussion), Jo Veal (clarinet), and Ruth Webber (tenor saxophone).
With support from Sheffield-based singer-songwriter Teah Lewis.
