This week at Family Time the Showroom celebrate another 2024 hit.
Based on Peter Brown’s beloved novel, The Wild Robot follows the adventures of a robot, ROZZUM unit 7134, or Roz (Lupita Nyong’o) for short, shipwrecked on an uninhabited island and forced to navigate it’s harsh landscape. Designed for efficiency and precision, Roz is programmed to follow logic, but in this strange, untamed world, she must learn to adapt and survive in ways far beyond her initial programming.
In an effort to coexist with the island animals, Roz begins to imitate their behaviour, slowly gaining their trust through learning how to communicate with them and adapting to the natural surroundings of the environment.
As Roz becomes a part of the island’s ecosystem, she faces increasing challenges, from harsh weather to natural predators, all while keeping a secret past she can barely remember. When mysterious robots arrive on the island seeking to reclaim her, Roz must confront her origins and decide where she truly belongs.
Voiced by Academy Award winner, Lupita Nyong’o and with supporting voicework from the likes of Mark Hamill, Matt Berry and Pedro Pascal, ‘The Wild Robot’ is a poignant tale of relationships and our connection to surroundings brought to life by Dreamworks stunning animation.
The Wild Robot is rated U, though it contains very mild threat, violence, bad language, and rude humour. For fans of Wall-E, The Iron Giant, and Big Hero 6.
