To the north of Sheffield in the village of Grenoside, underneath a private house, lies a rare example of an early crucible steel furnace dating from 1797.
The cellar and site is relatively undisturbed since crucible steel production ceased here in 1869. Not normally open to the public, the site will welcome visitors for Heritage Open Days for short tours down the stone steps into the cellar. There'll also be a small display of artefacts found locally and chance to hear from members of the Friends of Grenoside Steel Works about the site's history.
