Kelham Island Film Club takes place every Tuesday at Alder. Join them as they kick off their coming-of-age series this May with Alfonso Cuarón’s 2001 Mexican road film Y tu mamá también.
What better way to kick off the coming-of-age series than Alfonso Cuarón’s 2001 Mexican road film Y tu mamá también (Spanish for And Your Mother Too)? This is one of the organiser's favourite films ever, and hopefully something a little out of the ordinary from what you were expecting from this series.
Starring Mexican actors Diego Luna and Gael García Bernal and Spanish actress Maribel Verdú, the film tells a coming-of-age story about two teenage boys and an older woman who embark on a road trip and learn a thing or two about life and each other. The three form an increasingly intense and sensual alliance that ultimately strips them both physically and emotionally bare.
Set in 1999 Mexico against the backdrop of Mexico's political and economic realities, this smash road comedy from Oscar-winning director Alfonso Cuarón is that rare movie to combine raunchy subject matter and emotional warmth.
And another video worth checking out.
As always, drink deals for ticket holders! These are: £3 Blonde or Bitter; £4 Löwenbräu or Cider; double for single on house spirit + mixer; large house wine for medium.
