City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra and National Youth Ballet are joining forces this spring 2022 to present an evening of dance and music from young performers. Join them for an imaginative and contemporary re-telling of Kurt Weill’s The Seven Deadly Sins.
With members aged 13 to 21, the City of Sheffield Youth Orchestra is one of the UK's leading independent youth orchestras, recently celebrating its 40th Anniversary. The National Youth Ballet, meanwhile, provides opportunities for young people to get involved in classical and contemporary ballet and explore their creativity.
The Seven Deadly Sins is a ballet chanté (sung ballet) composed by Kurt Weill, with words by Bertolt Brecht. The piece will be choreographed by Alice O’Brien and Bianca Mikahil for a small number of dancers, with live score. The dancers and orchestra will be joined by mezzo-soprano Clover Kayne.
The Seven Deadly Sins will be followed by a performance of Symphony No. 5 by Dmitri Shostakovich.
