Stroboscopic is an exhibition of photography by Tracey Welch, revealing the relationship between musicians and their instruments.
In the 1940s, photographer Gjon Mili pioneered the art of stroboscopic photography, a multiple-exposure technique that created images of people and things in motion. For drummer Rich Westley, Mili’s images of jazz legend Gene Krupa playing the snare were an inspiration. Rich invited photographer Tracey Welch to join him in attempting to recreate the pictures using modern-day techniques. From there, the Stroboscopic Project was born.
Welch went on to work on further sessions, including with producer Dean Honer and his theremin. The Stroboscopic Project built up and exploration of physical connection, through photography, composition, performance and film. Discover these powerful and unique visual effects at the Stroboscopic during Sensoria 2022.
Please note: Stroboscopic will be closed Monday 3 October.
Note from Sensoria:
All Sensoria events this year will have a food bank collection. There is no pressure if this would stretch your own resources – but feel free to bring a non-perishable food item/unopened toiletries and we’ll distribute them after the festival.
