Spend a special afternoon in the gallery exploring the city’s Visual Art collection while a dance performance unfolds around you as Third Bite Dance presents THE FALLEN.
What if the exhibits in the Graves Gallery are living bodies, the bodies of older people, and they are falling, have fallen, are moving on the floor? THE FALLEN is the latest creation from Third Bite Dance, Sheffield's community performance group for older dancers.
Three of the gallery’s display spaces will be transformed by dancers who will perform vignettes about falling. Visitors can walk through the dance or pause to absorb the emotions and thoughts it evokes as the dancers rise from the floor or explore it.
Rather than be asked to sit and watch the performances, you'll be able to move between them as they constantly ebb and flow around the spaces and other visitors in the gallery. To ensure a comfortable and enjoyable experience for all, there are staggered arrival times to choose from to witness this living performance come to life in the space. If you would like to watch each performance come to its natural conclusion, please expect to be in each gallery space for approx. 15 minutes (a total duration of 45 minutes).
You’ll experience the gallery space imbued with a different energy, altering perspectives on the collection's paintings and sculptures, which will be seen anew in the light of the dancers' movements and stillness.
THE FALLEN is choreographed by Third Bite Dance's Artistic Director, Lucy Haighton, with the company.
