Mike Skinner caught the attention of the mainstream in 2002 when he released his seminal debut album Original Pirate Material. Rap with a British accent that talked about UK-centric issues was a sharp contrast to the American dominated landscape at the time. Over the course of the decade he released five albums becoming one of leading voices in UK music and culture.
Officially reforming in 2017, he released a string of singles and a mixtape, None Of Us Are Getting Out Of This Life Alive in 2020 that included a collaboration with Australian psych band Tame Impala. He now looks set to continue to push things forward – “You’re listening to The Streets, Lock down your aerial!”.
