Down in the lively Neepsend and Kelham Island corner of Sheffield, Alder is a hang-out built around good beer, great music and community spirit.
Like many buildings in this part of town, Alder's home has been through some interesting former lives – from Victorian polish factory to stables, car repair shop, builder’s yard and brewery. All of that makes for a bar and courtyard beer garden that are filled with character.
As a live music venue, Alder brings to its back room a truly eclectic programme. On any week you might find nights hosted by the likes of Honey Bee Blues Club, Klub Karaoke and Footprints Jazz Club, with other gigs ranging from local punk bands to folk acts to algorave musician-coders. And in May, it joins forces with other venues in the area to welcome folks at Get Together Festival.
Tuesday night is movie night as the bar hosts Kelham Island Film Club, with each month following a different theme (past themes have included: 420, high school, eco horror, French cinema, and more). Among the bar's other activities are its popular pub quiz every Wednesday, plus the occasional art exhibition.
