Turner’s is a beer shop for every occasion. Whether you’re after an array of exotic new ales to sample, a gift for a loved one with impeccable taste in alcohol, or a bulk buy to tide you over, its nifty chipboard and breeze block shelves are always worth a browse.
Since opening the shop in spring 2015, owners David and Rosie have brought together a selection of bottles and cans that's as good as it gets – stretching from locally sourced favourites courtesy of Thornbridge and Bradfield breweries, to up-and-coming national names including Beavertown and Cloudwater, to US masters like Brooklyn Brewery and Odell Brewing Company. There’s also a healthy selection of ciders that few beer specialists can boast.
Those making a special trip might want to fill up a gift box with a personal selection, while regulars can invest in the loyalty card scheme and get every thirteenth beer free. The shop’s 'growler' refills system is a similarly savvy way of keeping stocked up: simply make a one-off purchase of a one or two litre glass bottle, choose one of an ever-changing selection of keg ales to fill it with, then come back for a refill when you’ve emptied it.
The bottles are flooded with CO2 before the beer is added, to keep it fresh and tasty for up to four weeks. So, pick up a few bags of posh pork scratchings or a tub Bradfield Farmers Ale Chutney from Turner’s’ mighty selection of beer snacks too, and you’ll have a month’s worth of perfect nights in to look forward to.
