Whit Stillman is an acclaimed director with a strong cult status, beloved by indie film fans and filmmakers alike, with his dry dialogue and distinct sense of place and time being credited as inspiration for directors Wes Anderson and Noah Baumbach in particular. With effortlessly cool casts including Chloe Sevigny and Greta Gerwig, Stillman’s films are as stylish as they are funny.
To celebrate Whit Stillman’s visit to Sheffield this summer, the Showroom are screening all five of his feature films, from his Oscar-nominated film Metropolitan on 35mm with in-person Q&A, to the rest of his 90s trilogy, his comeback college comedy, and his most recent, an adaptation of a lesser-known Jane Austen story (a full circle moment, decades on from the New York-set homage to Austen, Metropolitan).
