In 2019, Tor Maries attended a Sleaford Mods show alone in Southampton. Drawing inspiration from the music, she also drew inspiration from a fellow audience member who called her 'Billy Nomates', cementing her new stage name and sound.

She uses stark, post-punk-inspired beats to back her socially charged, deadpan lyrics that take on the British class structure, propaganda and more. She’s been named as one of the most exciting and original acts in the country, releasing her debut album in 2020 and is set to release new music this year.
