It all began in January 2024 in the former home of a poet laureate near Hebden Bridge on a residential poetry course. The tutor, acclaimed poet Glynn Maxwell, presented with a poem called Beetroot, shook his head and looked at the author as if he was completely mad. Glynn said it needed more beetroot and so the author duly set about rewriting it. After some not inconsiderable tweaking, it was better and Glynn approved, as did the rest of the group when they heard it at the end of the week. And so the course was set.
Poems about onions, asparagus and the avocado followed and John Hobson, the plant-based performance poet was born.
A hundred poetry open mics throughout South and West Yorkshire later and the plant-based poet is proud to present his first full public show, Funny Onion.
Prepare yourself for a poetry vegetable extravaganza as well as other spicy culinary adventures. There are also encounters with a naughty French circus strongman, a stovepipe hat, Rebecker the double decker, a vengeance seeking football referee and Jean Maclean, the ultimate cleaning machine.
This might be poetry but its not poetry as you will have heard it before. Guaranteed to have you roaring with laughter, come to the Lescar and let the vegetables entertain you.
