11-year-old Karin finds herself abandoned in a small Japanese town, when her father drops her off at the temple where her grandfather, a monk, resides.
Her grandfather asks Anzu – his 37-year-old, six foot tall, talking cat – to look after Karin, but Anzu is more interested in his part-time job as a chiropractor, riding his moped and visiting the pachinko parlour.
As their spirited personalities collide, and in an effort to win Karin over, Anzu accidentally makes a deal with the spirits of the underworld, and all hell breaks loose.
Based on the manga of the same name by Takashi Imashiro, Ghost Cat Anzu is a quirky, visually-stunning and wildly funny ride across multiple planes of existence and animations styles.
Screening as part of the Japan Foundation's national touring film programme.
