Best known as the front-man of Wales’ finest psychedelic pop band Super Furry Animals, Gruff Rhys released his seventh solo album, Seeking New Gods, earlier this year.
Obviously, the record is a concept album about an ancient volcano on the China-North Korea border – business as usual then for Gruff, who’s no stranger to taking on non-conventional subjects for his albums (see American Interior, an album inspired by the life of 18th century Welsh explorer John Evans, or his album with Neon Neon based on the bizarre life of car designer John DeLorean).
A master of McCartney-esque psychedelia, bone-dry humour and exquisite songwriting, Gruff Rhys is one of pop’s great eccentrics.
