Join us for this special event to celebrate the history and unique character of Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet!
We’re getting ready to reopen Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet for the spring – now with a brand-new children’s play area, and new displays and a shop in the fully refurbished Welcome Hub. To mark the occasion, we’d love you to join us for a host of fun-packed activities and demonstrations as we celebrate this new chapter in the Hamlet’s remarkable story.
On the day, you’ll be able to see heritage craft skills in action through a series of demonstrations including glassmaking, weaving, blacksmithing, woodturning, edge tool grinding and more.
You’ll also have the chance to delve into the history of the site with guided tours from our team of volunteers – exploring all things Abbeydale, from waterwheels and workers to scythe-making and the story of the site.
Then have a go at rag rug making and paper weaving in our fun family activity, and take a trail to explore the Hamlet further!
Plus, there will be performances to enjoy, games to play, and more!
You’re welcome to come at any point during the day, but as it’s a small site, we’re asking people to pre-book tickets so that we can handle visitor numbers. Numbers are particularly limited on the guided tours, so please book these in advance through Eventbrite – just scroll down on the ticket page to add them to your order. Each tour lasts around 20 minutes.
Equally, the café is likely to be busy so we recommend booking a table in advance.
Please note, we expect this to be a busy event, so only accessible parking will be available on site and we encourage visitors to travel by public transport. Free on-road parking is available nearby on Abbeydale Road South, just a couple of minutes’ walk from the Hamlet – as always, as a courtesy to our neighbouring community, please avoid parking on the residential roads opposite the Hamlet as this can block access, particularly for larger vehicles and the Emergency Services.
