International Teachers of Pop are Adrian Flanagan and Dean Honer, the men behind Sheffield’s Eccentronic Research Council and the Moonlandingz, and Leonore Wheatley of the Soundcarriers.
They met at a ‘circuit bending workshop’ in South Yorkshire where they decided to see what would happen if they tried writing a song together. Since then they’ve supported Jarvis Cocker and Roisin Murphy, released a string of singles, completed a mini tour, and are set to release their debut album on 8th February.
Recorded in Sheffield using mainly pre-1980s US and Soviet analogue synthesisers and a collection of dusty old drum machines, the album takes influence from disco and pop forebears such as Giorgio Moroder, Martin Rushent and Bobby Orlando, with the band adding a dose of their own ‘outsider pop’.
Support comes from Los Bitchos and Sheffield’s own All Girls Arson Club and Naguals.
