Sounds from the Ground is a series of three free drop-in sound workshops that respond to Rachel Pimm’s Mixed Metaphors exhibition. Head down to Soft Ground on The Moor and explore sound – making, recording, listening, producing and reproducing. These specially devised sessions are led by artists and incorporate different materials, objects and instruments.
All tech and materials provided, along with refreshments, and no previous knowledge or experience is needed. Suitable for all ages, including children aged 5+. Children should be supervised by an adult they know at all times.
No need to book. Drop in any time 1–4pm.
Sounds from the Ground #1: 6 May
Artist Rian Treanor invites you to use different objects and materials found in the exhibition to play and make sounds with, as part of a collaborative musical game.
The workshop is an ongoing drop-in group performance that explores unusual sounds, rhythms and patterns. By following simple instructions, a unique and changing piece of music will be created throughout the workshop.
Sounds from the Ground #2: 20 May
bones tan jones will lead you through a three-part workshop combining body, breath and being.
Through Qi gong movements, games and vocal exercises, and weaving through the vastness of space, participants will explore ways of working with our internal energies to create intuitive, improvised, collective performance.
Sounds from the Ground #3: 10 June
Join artist Freya Dooley to collaboratively create a collaged soundscape that responds to the layered landscapes of Mixed Metaphors.
The workshop will imagine the sonic characters of functional objects and industrial materials within the space as members of a kind-of alternative orchestra. Participants will experiment with musical loops, hooks and samples to generate improvised, electronic soundtrack/s.
ACCESS: Soft Ground is on the first floor of a building on The Moor with step free / lift access and a disabled toilet. There is space to leave buggys and coats. There are intermittent loud noises occurring as part of the exhibition.
