Threshold to the Kingdom is a short film by artist Mark Wallinger, playing with the symbolism signalling a change in being. Slow motion footage of people arriving at London City Airport shows them delivered from the stateless limbo of international airspace to the sovereignty of UK soil and all it represents.
The film’s spiritual parallels are amplified in its soundtrack, Miserere – a seventeenth-century setting of the Bible’s fifty-first psalm by the Italian composer Gregorio Allegri, sung in the Sistine Chapel for centuries.
Catch the film as it plays on a loop in Millennium Gallery this spring.
