The Sheffield culture guide written by in-the-know locals

Hillsborough Bookshop

Hillsborough Bookshop, 89 Middlewood Road, S6 4GX

For Sophie at Hillsborough Bookshop, it all began with “the real desire to share the incredible power of stories and different voices within my local community.”

With a background in writing for young people, Sophie’s main focus is on children’s books, though adults won’t be disappointed either. She started small, with a couple of shelves in Annie Jude’s Shop, before getting the keys to her own place in summer 2023.

The community, as Sophie sees it, “are the biggest part of the shop.” As well as shelves lined with beautiful and inclusive books, the shop also hosts free Storytime sessions and a book club. Plus it teams up with schools to get more books into the hands of more children and young people in and around the north-west suburb.
