Who are the people that represent Sheffield? From pioneers and performers to athletes and artists, Creative Connections celebrates the public figures synonymous with our city.
The exhibition at Millennium Gallery brings together over 30 works from the National Portrait Gallery and Sheffield’s own collection. It includes portraits of Alex Turner, Jessica Ennis-Hill, Sean Bean, Self Esteem, Otis Mensah, Helen Sharman, Mary, Queen of Scots and more. Visitors will also discover some of Sheffield’s little-known connections with famous names, including US aviator Amy Johnson and founder of modern nursing, Florence Nightingale.
The works go on display alongside a striking bus shelter installation created by Sheffield artist Conor Rogers and students at Sheffield Park Academy, exploring ideas of place, community and inspiration.
